defying squares
Defying Squares is an intimate but bold exploration of the ceramic surface and a challenge to the boundaries set by an imaginary square, a dichotomy balancing composition and an urge to defy, to be different within the parameters of a self-imposed norm. Each piece is a statement of defiance as the square is broken, the edges pushed in or out. Edges that melt or protrude, sometimes purposefully, sometimes indifferently, oblivious to the boundaries of the square. And each piece celebrates a story that is as personal as it is public, a juxtaposition of experiences and artistic discipline purged by fire.
